So I am the kind of artists who works on several paintings throughout any given time really. My mind works so fast with new ideas that I find it nearly impossible to focus on one single project. So, I have placed the cherub painting on hold and I am working on a pixel series. This particular one is a wingding symbol for peace. Peace is what I think the world needs more of. Every day there are horror stories in the news and very little positive views, so I would like to bring more positivity into the world. When I was in middle I would write a message to my friends and translate through wingdings, I'd email my friend and have them decode the message. I remember Having lots of fun and even come out as gay to one of my friends through this "secret messaging". So now I leave you with this message that you can decode: .✋ ☹ □︎❖︎☜ ✡□︎✞📬︎
I finished reading my humanities book CHANT OF THE CENTURIES. It seems to me that artist have struggled and pushed their way throughout art history. There really is a type of chant that exists in art history. It is a very beautiful chant. One that nourished my soul. I feel healthier after finishing. I feel ready to continue the tradition of the artists that came before me. I have them to look up to. I have them to be inspired by. I have them to make proud.
Here is a digital painting of a traditional painting I am currently working on. I wanted to add skin color to the cherubs because I believe in a cultural world view. I believe that true identity comes from the consciousness. This mind the we all share transcends race, sex, gender, class. That is the beauty of art, it can grasp everyone in it's hands.
Having a large canvas is top notch for me right now. I love the subject matter. I am painting rococo type cherubs with virtual reality headsets. I'm not sure what genre of art this will belong in. Is there an art movement about fine art depictions of technology? I thought of calling my general body of work “Techadence”. That sounds fitting but I don't people will take it seriously, but fuck them. Technology in a period of decadence is what ive been fixated on for quite some time. Someone told me that they love the analog side of my work and I appreciated that. I think that is one of my specialties is that although I fixate on high tech, I have major respect for the non electrical world too.
I am working on a new painting. i was inspired by the digital age. I remember the first time I got onto a computer it was at the public library. The computer was large, warm, beige and purred like a cat. I felt like those computers were babies compared to the laptop and cell phone I have now. The world feels old, but technology is such a shiny new inspiration. I am going to paint baby cherubs playing with virtual reality tech. since I feel like technology is such a driving force in life now, why wouldn't the cherubs play too?
I have been reading Chant of the Centuries by Beverly Jeanne Davis. This book is about the history of the humanities. From ancient Egypt to modern art I am learning so much. I believe that history is cyclical because human nature is always the same no matter what is around the material world. The more I read the more my mind opens up to new and interesting ideas and feelings. The world is becoming more clear.
I am laying in bed writing this journal entry from the comfort of my home. I am contemplating art. For me the true way to escape my miserable and painful life is and was through art making. For a brief moment there shines a light from another world that comes in the form of art. I drink this light as it is the most precious source of energy in the world! I will really never be quenched for this energy is my sustenance. I thirst for creating more art. Instead of seeking salvation in a church I have sought the saving of my soul in an art museum. I now recommend it to the most broken and depraved among us. For art has saved my soul in more ways than one and on a greater scale than you or I can ever possible imagine.
I am at the central library getting books about pop art. I want to learn the history and get as much information as I can. I believe in knowledge. I have been using the library ever since I was little. I remember my mother taking me to the library every now and then so that I can get books and movies to use at home. I would go to the art section and pick out the "how to draw" books. That's how I learned how to draw using shapes and lighting. I used to like getting all kinds of movies. Some of my favorite are the "eye witness" videos. they were a documentary series that covered different subjects. I thank the library for everything that I have learned. Because of my poor upbringing I had to rely on outside sources. I give many thanks to a great institution.
Andy called me an "autodidact" the other day, and I remember not know what the word meant so I immediately started googling it. I like to learn. I suddenly realized that people who don't like learning are people who let life go by and they are at ease with it all. That must feel like a different kind of freedom.
I'm laying on the sofa beneath my smile like you mean it painting. I'm listening to my favorite vinyl records.Right now i have on Reader's Digest's “World's Most Beautiful Melodies”. The record is full of classical music! I am also high as a paper plane. Sometimes in life you have to appreciate as much as you can. Once you open yourself up to the world like a flower, the world opens up to you.
I believe in pushing the boundaries of art. We all need to be pushing the borders as much as we can. Innovation, creativity, transcendence. All this themes are as important as the heaven , the sun and the Earth. The world is ready for the new. The world is ready for the fresh! The world is ready for.. for… FOR US!
