I was watching youtube and I saw this amazing video by google. Google used popular movies scenes and edited them in a way to feature their products at key moments in the scenes, and I love this a lot!
To slice and edit a video is something I feel is extremely pop. Like a collage when I cut up images and copy and paste them onto paper or microsoft paint, google has used this instead using video. Since one can merge two mediums together to create an entirely new work of art this comes from dada art, then pop art and now #heygoogle art.. Yes, I think this campaign is a work of art and I am excited about it all.
Featured in this video are 2001: A space odyssey where the evil computer Hal9000 is replaced by the benevolent Google Assistant who opens the pod bay doors for astronaut David. Next, Is Hangover where the character is shown images of last nights craziness through google. One of my favorite scenes is from SCREAM featuring Drew Barrymore (I love her) answering a call from the ghost face killer, Drew's character sees the killer on her 'nest' monitor and calls the police thus saving her from being brutally gutted like a fish. This entire video all being played with The Ramones punk rock song "Hey Ho, Let's Go"
I feel like the world is going to start venturing into a new pop world where everyone is communication to each other using the same language of popular culture. I was afraid we were all going to crumble into meaningless fragments, yet here we all are still together like one big family. And that makes me happy.
In one excellent sweep #HeyGoogle, Let's Go to the Movies is a stunning revival of the love for movies and the selling of commercial products. I am so here for it and look forward to what google has next.
