Music video of the week is Cardi B's Bodak Yellow. Now there's a lot about this awesome video, but there are two things I ant to talk about: the intro and the fashions.
First, the intro. In the beginning shots we see a desert landscape of Saudi Arabia. Now, to me this is symbolic of the harshness of nature and of our own time. Cardi B is from the projects in new York city, where it is no doubt an extreme environment. Growing up in the inner cities requires a higher level energy. With danger and desolation around every corner I believe that images of Cardi B in a bright green dress riding camel through the desert represent her arrival in the hard world.
Next is her fashions, from her green dress to her black patch dress featuring an anarchy sign. To were a symbol that represents anarchy is a declaration of a chaotic world. Cardi b is telling us through fashion how wild and unruly our world is. Her hair cut is a blunt Bob. Blunted to show how fashionable and severe she is.
I absolutely love this video for her lyrics, beat, fashions and visual imagery. I remember this song playing everywhere with men and women singing along. Cardi B is a great article who struck at the heart of the culture by showing us how we really are. Also, the song goes hard as hell and I listen to it ever time I need a power boost.
