Tomorrow A and I will be going to a viewing of Sophia Coppola's film "Marie Antoinette" and have tea and snacks at the theater with company. I LOVE this. Did you know that my FAVORITE art movements are both the rococo AND the neoclassical? If you didn't know, well, now you know <3
Last Thursday I went to a member's 'drink and draw' hosted by Blue Star Contemporary. It was FABULOUS. I met some GREAT people and saw some friends. What I loved the most was that the drawing class was about relatively approaching the centerpiece. Drawing each object with a distinguished mark. The tearcher was great, he taught art at U.T.S.A. We weren't allowed to use our eraser for erasing mistakes, but instead to add texture or 'information' the teacher said. I thought that was neat. I realized I truly needed to be drunk to feel comfortable drawing in that style. I loved it.
On Tuesday, A took me to the San Antonio Museum of Art's exhibition "Spanish Paintings". This was REGAL. I felt the power of the canon wash over me. All those years, well more like two years, that I spent reading and studying western art definitely enriched my experience, In the show I was able to see the wonderful cascading traditions and the beautiful mastery of oil painting. I saw El Greco, Velasquez and Picasso. Oh it was SO amazing. While I was there I made some sketches of the master works that were in the collection. I could spend my whole life in S.A.M.A. What a beautiful place.
